Church Notes: Benedictine abbey founded ca. 855, with a church believed to be in place by 971, of which traces have been discovered; present church started before 1130, woeked on through the 13th and 14thC; at the Revolution most of the abbey was demolished, the church and the chapter hall were spared -- listed and illustrated in Mérimée [ref.: PA00099667]: "Eglise abbatiale Saint-Pierre du 12e siècle. Vestiges de l'ancienne abbaye du 12e et du 17e siècle. L'église et la salle capitulaire élevée dans le prolongement du bras nord de son transept, sont les seules parties intégralement conservées de l'abbaye bénédictine fondée par Raoul de Turenne, archevêque de Bourges."

There is neither font nor holy-water stoup listed for this church among the "mobilier classé" for this church. The present font [cf. ImagesArea] is modern. There is an object of interest but of doubtful identification, that may or may not have been used as font or stoup in the past, whatever its original function was; it has a flat back with a hemispherical font, practically vertical sides and it is totally plain. [NB: we have no information on the font of the original abbey church here]
