Church Notes: first church known here ca. 950 dedicated to St. Gervais and St. Protais; later priory dedicated to St. Stephen; sacked late-12thC; re-built early-13thC; enlarged 14thC; restored 1999-2001 -- listed and illustrated in Mérimée [ref.: PA00099793]: "L'église, primitivement construite vers le 11e siècle, a été agrandie à la fin du 12e, et remaniée au 14e siècle".
The present font at this church appears monolithic, a hemispherical basin of veined marble on a squat round base; the only decoration are the three incised scotiae at top, middle and lower end on the basin sides; the upper rim seems to have damage related to an old font cover, but there is no cover present now. The church has a most interesting series of capitals related to St. Stephen (outside) and the Life of Christ cycles (inside).
