Church Notes: original church here 12thC; re-built in 1712; demolished in 1745; present church listed in Rijksmonumenten [http://rijksmonumenten.nl/monument/39168/sint-agathakerk/eys/] [accessed 24 January 2017] as built in 1734; restored and extended 1934-1935
Font Notes:
The present font is noted in the Voorloopige lijst der Nederlandse Monumenten (vol. VIII, 1926) as a cylindrical, half-round hollowed out hard-stone basin, probably of the 12th century, raised on a later base. The old cylindrical basin is totally plain, and bears evidence of damage; it is mounted on a plain round pedestal base and an octagonal lower base with a chamfer around the top as the only decoration. There is brass font cover with moulded sides and cross on a turned finial. [NB: given that the original 12th-century church here was demolished in 1745 [cf. ChurchNotes] it is quite likely that the old font was restored at that time, or at the time of the restoration of the later church in the mid-1930s].
