En 1746, un brevet royal décrète la suppression du prieuré. En 1790, bâtiments et biens sont vendus comme biens nationaux." It was a priory church of the Abbaye de la Chaise-Dieu. The Eglise de Port-Dieu appears to have been built ca.1200 outside the old priory close; it was recovered in 1990
