Church Notes: 12thC church documented by 1143-1156, but one local source [www.cc-bourganeuf-royeredevassiviere.fr/Saint-Martin-Chateau] gives 1057 as the earliest date for the church -- listed and illustrated in Mérimée [ref.: IA00030553]: "Eglise construite au 12e siècle ; importantes réparations au 15e siècle ; voûtes refaites au 18e siècle ; quelques réparations effectuées au cours du 19e siècle".

Baptismal font of stone listed and illustrated in Palissy [ref.: IM23000935]: "Cuve cylindrique posée sur un socle rectangulaire […] granite […] ornementation (ornement à forme géométrique) […] 12e siècle ; 13e siècle". The church has a second font, apparently in use and provided with a cover, dated in Palissy [ref.: IM23000936] to the 19th century. The basin of the font is decorated with a large zig-zag that covers part of it and encloses a variety of small motifs in the angles (ball, X, concentric circles, etc.), but part of the side has at least one very crudely-rendered avian figure; the square pedestal base appears to be a later replacement. No font cover present.
