An interesting object here is described in Églises de Corrèze [http://eglises.de.correze.online.fr/eglise-p.php] [accessed 13 January 2017] as "Une remarquable cuve en granit monolithe, décorée d’une scène de chasse remontant à l’époque gallo-romaine a été réemployée comme cuve baptismale. Elle est apparentée à l’art du proche sanctuaire des Cars." This item has an illustrated entry in Palissy [ref.: PM19000302] that notes: "L'exposition "La mort des notables en Gaule romaine" a permis d'identifier cette oeuvre comme un élément de coffre cinéraire, et de proposer une datation de la fin du 2e siècle de notre ère, époque à laquelle les scènes de chasse se répandent sur les sépultures des riches propriétaires fonciers. Elle provient vraisemblablement du site gallo-romain des Cars (Corrèze, commune de Saint-Merd-les-Oussines)." It further states that it was at one point used as a baptismal font but was later relegated to the parvise on account of its racy decoration: "Il ne subsiste que la caisse du monument cinéraire, le couvercle a disparu. Avant classement : cassures et manques. Serpent et appareil sexuel du chasseur sculptés à posteriori, à une époque impossible à déterminer. Ce coffre a été réemployé dans la chapelle comme cuve baptismale (fond arrondi et percé d'un trou), puis relégué à l'extérieur sur le parvis à cause de sa représentation ithyphallique, et enfin réinstallé dans la chapelle en 2002. […] La composition s'organise en panneaux convergeant vers la scène principale. Celle-ci est une chasse à l'épieu : un chasseur, nue tête et vêtu de la tunique courte et sans manche traditionnelle, enfonce son épieu dans le cou d'un sanglier, attaqué par deux chiens. Sur chaque panneau, de part et d'autre, un cerf à l'imposante ramure ; sur les panneaux suivant à droite, des biches. Dans un deuxième temps, après avoir abattu la surface du parement originel, ont été ajoutés : un appareil sexuel hypertrophié au chasseur, et un serpent sur le panneau de l'extrême droite." The octagonal object has specific scenes of wild boar hunting on the sides, with stags standing but not being part of the hunt; some elements of the carving are said to have been added at a later date. There are two other related objetcs in this church: a stone font dated 19th-century in Palissy [ref.: IM19000769] and a holy-water stoup dated 18th-century in Palissy [ref.: IM19000768].
