Font Notes:
Baptismal font made of soapstone and dated 1150-1200 originally from Ottestad listed in Solhaug (2001) as located in the Hedmarksmusset. The baptismal font of the ruined church of Ottestad in Stange is noted and illustrated in a B&W photograph [DOK-03134] in the Anno Domkirkeodden collection [https://digitaltmuseum.no/011012826274/dopefont-i-stein-hh-ottestad-kirke-i-stange] [accessed 15 March 2026]. The font is described in Kristian Reinfjord's article En middelaldersk døpefont fra Ottestad i Domkirkeoddens samlinger, with illustrations by Geir Ove Andreassen [https://domkirkeodden.no/dopefont-fra-middelalderen] [accessed 15 March 2026] as a Romanesque baptismal font from Ottestad earlier at the Ottestad farm and church; it is carved in soapstone probably in Gudbrandsdalen, with simple decoration in the form of braided bands and square fields symmetrically placed around the cylindrical body of the font (height 58 cm, outer diameter of the basin: 61 cm) and may be associated with Solhaug's main type II. It was used as a toilet bowl -- The font from Ottestad is one of 11 baptismal fonts from medieval Hedmark. All the fonts from our region are made of clay, and all but four are found in churches. The font from Veldre Church is in Domkirkeodden's collections, while Romedal Church's baptismal font can be seen at Glomdalsmuseet. The baptismal font was central to the baptismal ritual in the Middle Ages: "Dåpsritualet har i høyeste grad vært implementert på Hedmarken i middelalderen.

The object is associated with Solhaug's main type II, which
