Church Notes: stave church built mid-12thC; original church of ca.1150 said to have been burned down by King Sverre in 1184; re-built ca.1190; major reconstruction in 1862; restored to its earlier look in the mid-20thC
The present font is made of wood; it consists of a hexagonal basin with a protruding upper rim, the sides and underbowl tapering in forming panels marked my arrises; raised on a ball held up by six vertical scroll ribs resting on a moukded hexagonal lower base. The wooden cover is of similar shape and proportions as the basin. All the wood surfaces of the font appear to be painted. [NB: we have no information on the font(s) of the original church(es) here].
