Church Notes: [NB: there may have been an earlier wooden church in place, built over a well] -- old church completed ca.1220; re-built 1748 after a major fire; renovated 1820; restored 1920, 1970s, 1999-2001; it is no longer used for regular services but it is used for specila services, chiefly in the summer months -- the new church, which holds regular parish services now, was built in the 1880s
Baptismal font made from pine wood, said to be medieval (?), but the paint on it is believed to be from the 17th century; there is a Baptism of Christ in the Jordan scene painted on the side facing west now; above the scene is an inscription [text not available]; the rest of the font font has a geometric pattern painted in bright colours. The font is made of a single block of pine wood (?), carved in three distinct polygonal volumes (basin, stem and lower base). The font serves as the base for a metal baptismal wish that holds the holy water. [NB: although there are local claims of an early stavekirke in this place, it is very unlikely the present wooden font is from that period; the design and general workmanship point to a much later date in the medieval, or even late-medieval period].
