Font Notes:
There is an entry for [Great] Gaddesden [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SP9913/little-gaddesden/] [accessed 13 September 2016]; it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. The Victoria County History (Hertfordshire, vol. 2, 1908) notes: "The church of Little Gaddesden belonged to the abbot and convent of St. James, Northampton, […] within a century of the foundation of the abbey (1104–5), […] but it is not known by whom the church was granted to them. […] Repair and rebuilding have left little history to the church; the nave arcades and tower date from the fifteenth century, and seem to be the oldest parts of the building, while the chancel, which is slightly wider than the nave, has scarcely a trace of mediaeval work. […] The font, at the east end of the south aisle of the nave, is modern, octagonal with panelled sides." The entry for this church in English Heritage [Listing NGR: SP9978813820] (1966) notes: "C19 octagonal panelled font originally given to Ivinghoe Church by 7th Earl of Bridgewater and given to this church 1872. Older font cover."
