Church Notes: The church in ruins may have been built in the 18th century; we do not know whether an earlier church or chapel existed here. Eván de Arriba was reported with five inhabitants in 1631; both Eván de Arriba and Eván de Abajo were reported as 'despoblados' [abandoned] by 1834 [cf. Subdivisión en partidos judiciales (Madrid: Imprenta Real, 1834): p. 226]; the castle at Evan de Arriba may date from the 12th-13thC
The font in this abandoned church consists of a roughly hemispherical basin raised on a round pedestal base; the whole is partially built into a corner of the ruined church, but do not know whether that was the original set-up; the basin has some ribs on the underbowl; the base appears to have remains of horse-shoe arches on it, but the general appearance of the font is not of great age. The font appears to have been painted at some point, most of the paint peeling off now.
