Noted in Danmarks Kirker (Præstø Amt VI, bind 2 (1933-35): 969) as a Romanesque baptismal font of granite; the baptismal dish [Fad] being a Netherlands piece of ca. 1625. Illustrated in Hartling (1964). Described in the parish inventory [www.keldbyelmelundekirke.dk/elmelunde-kirke/inventar/] [accessed 2 September 2016] as font consisting of a granite bowl from c. 1350, on a granite base of 1946. On-site notes: if the information in the inventory noted above is correct, the font is a composite object; it consists of a round basin roughly cylindrical but with a rounded underbowl; the upper rim of the basin is decorated with a rope moulding; the base is of a common medieval design, of conical shape, with a broad roll moulding at the top; the basin has a very large off-centre drain hole, the drain carried through to the exterior of the underbowl, and a channel cut into the side of the pedestal base. The font has been painted or varnished. No cover present, nor is there any evidence of font cover hardware on the basin.
