Baptismal font of granite listed in Mackeprang (1941) as part of the Himmerland-Mariagertypen, Himmerlandsgruppen. The font consists of a roughly hemispheric basin on a squat moulded base that is probably a later replacement of the original; the basin sides are decorated with two pairs of bi-corporal lions with ovine-looking heads; the bodies of the lions are well rendered; there are no humans involved here, but there is a playful detailing involving the tails of the lions; the tails of one of the pairs are rendered the usual way, under the lion's hind leg and up over the rump, the tail end leaf-like shape [NB: on this side there is considerable damage at the upper rim, but it does not seem to be related to cover hardware causes]; at the back of the other pair the stone mason has created an intricate tangle with the tails; breaking with the usual direction of the tails these curved naturally downwards and then upwards but the tail ends, very large and, though floral, resemble animal heads, lean towards the animals' rumps; there is also a lock-like ring (?) that incongruously ties the tails of these two lions; the manes of these lions are much less elaborate than those of the Hov family, rather more like the ones on the font at Verggerby, as the Aalborg Stift entry for this church [http://aalborgstift.dk/kirker/aalborg-ostre/gunderup-kirke/dobefont/] [accessed 7 August 2016] suggests. There are two Runic inscribed stones in the porch [the 'våbenhus'], both with dedications 'in memoriam'].
