Font Notes:
There is an entry for Bushey [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/TQ1395/bushey/] [accessed 27 July 2016), but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. The Victoria County History (Hertford, vol. 2, 1908) notes: "Its existence as a separate parish probably dates from about 1166, when an agreement was made between Robert abbot of St. Albans, and Geoffrey de Jarpenville as to the church of Hertesheved otherwise called Bussheye. […] It underwent a thorough 'restoration' in 1871 at the hands of Sir Gilbert Scott […] The font, at the west end of the nave, is modern, having a square bowl on a central stem and four angle shafts." The present marble font is late-19th century, probably from the Scott restoration noted in the VCH entry. [NB: the church at Bushey Heath is 19th-century]
