Noted and illustrated in the Centre de la Culture du Limousin Médiéval [www.limousin-medieval.com /#!baptisteres-/c1ejl] [accessed 2 July 2016] as a baptismal font that never made the trip from the quarry to the church it was intended for: "Cuve baptismale trilobée de Chateauponsac, encore en place dans la carrière de pierres". The basin has a trefoil shape, one side straight, the three lobes of the trefoil opposite; it appears to have been completed on site at the quarry but never moved from it. The Centre... [cf. supra] illustrates one other vessel of similar shape in Dun le Palleteau, also in the Limousin region, serving as fountain. Was this one also meant to be a fountain, and not a font? [NB: BSI has other basins of this type used as fonts, for example at Bellac and Le Dorat].
