An entry in tome 18 [2nd series, vol. 8] of the 1861 Mémoires de la Société des antiquaires de Picardie, issued by the Société des antiquaires de Picardie (p. 179-180) notes: "La chapelle St-Hubert d'Escarbotin fut fondée par messire Etienne de Roussé, chevalier, seigneur de St- Cler", with a dates of the transfer of some of the donations as 1637 and 1639; the sire and the inhabitants of Escarbotin assume the upkeep of the said chapel together; curiously they were also assumed to contribute to the support of nearby Friville, to which this Saint-Hubert became chapel-of-ease. [NB: we have no information on the font from the original church here, but the church houses an interesting font reported in Richesses-en-Somme [www.richesses-en-somme.com/patrimoine-des-églises/fonts-baptismaux/fonts-baptismaux-insolites/] [accessed 24 June 2016], a wooden font originally from the chapel of the castle at Belloy: " Dans cette église St Hubert d'Escarbotin, les fonts baptismaux en bois proviennent de l'ancienne chapelle du château de Belloy. Leur côté insolite provient de ce qu'ils sont posés sur un plateau muni de roulettes." The object, the shape of which somewhat resembles a typical plunger-type butter churcn, is set on a base with casters.
