Church Notes: Cistercian monastery started 1171; documented in 1222; present church 12th-13thC; modified late 15thC;
A roughly hemispherical basin, plain but for a pronounced moulding at the upper rim; also in the upper rim evidence of two metal staples from an old cover; the basin shape suggests a late medieval date, rather than earlier. An undated painting by a local artist [cf. ImagesArea] shows the basin raised of a pedestal base, but there is no evidence of it now and the basin rests directly on the ground. No cover present.
