Church Notes: a 1078 document attests to the tonation of a church here to the abbaye de Saint-Maixent; church badly damaged by fire 1569; restoration work docemented 1666 and 1728; sold in the Revolution; listed as historical monument in 1840; bought by Charles Pontonnier de la Girardière in 1846; "En 1998, l'association diocésaine de Poitiers vend l'église à la commune de Verrines" [dossier: Inventaire général du patrimoine culturel de la Région Poitou-Charentes (2002) -- listed in Mérimée [ref.: PA00101207]: "Eglise romane dont il ne subsiste plus que le choeur et le transept. Nef détruite à la Révolution. Chapiteaux historiés."
