Baptismal font noted in Pastorale du Tourisme et des Loisirs, Diocèse d'Autun, Chalon et Mâcon [www.pastourisme71.com/fiches_eglises_a_imprimer/Fiche_Culles_les_Roches_2010 PRTL.pdf] [accessed 22 May 2016]: "Dès l’entrée, on remarque, à gauche, les fonts baptismaux, avec quatre beaux masques d’angle sculptés, sous la tablette sommitale quadrangulaire". Also noted in Art roman en Bourgogne [www.bourgogneromane.com/edifices/culles.htm] [accessed 22 May 2016]: "Les murs latéraux sont allégés d’arcades aveugles et on y trouve des fonts baptismaux remarquables avec quatre masques d’angle." Marcelle Perrard [www.frans.fr/fr/information/77621/l-eglise] [accessed 22 May 2016] mentions the similarity of the font at Frans (Ain) with the font at Culles en Chalonnais. The baptismal font at Culles shares with the one at Frans the four human heads at 90-degree angles of the basin underbowl, but there end the similarities; it consists of a square table-top basin with a rounded underbowl, the heads arranged below the square angles of the protruding upper rim flat moulding; raised on an octagonal-to-square pedestal base. Recently restored.
