The entry for this font in Mémoire [image ref.: DSF 3235 P] notes: "Fonts baptismaux [en pierre] signalés disparus par la liste des objets mobiliers classés". A communication from Pol Herman to BSI (e-mail of 2 May 2022) includes a reference to the site Armoiries Sameriennes [http://remus80.eklablog.com/allery-a155902200] [accessed 7 May 2022] in which the armorial device on the font is identified: "Fonts baptismaux du XVIème furent donnés par Lionel du Hamel (mort en 1544) et par son épouse Françoise d'Occoches" and proceeds to relate the heraldic device on the basin to the arms of the two families: those of the Du Hamel ("De sable à trois flanchis d'or accolés, posés et rangés en bande") with the "coqs de sable" of the Occoches family ("D'argent à la fasce de gueules, surmontée de trois coqs de sable, membrés, crêtés, becqués et couronnés de gueules", with the comment on the actual emblem on the font: "On y voit leurs armes, avec une différence puisque les coqs d'Occoches sont sur la fasce centrale", and there are only two 'cocqs', not three, on the device for the Du Hamel-Occoches. [NB: an illustration reproduced in Armoiries Sameriennes [cf. supra] shows the four shields that appear on the basin of this font, only two of which are charged, the other two being blank: one of the charged shields is identified as the joint Du Hamel-Occoches; the other charged shield has the Du Hamel arms on its own]. Octagonal font covered in profuse foliage decoration; it has charged shields on the basin sides [cf. supra], and there is a baptism-related scene [cf. supra] on every other panel of the octagonal pedestal base; the lower base is moulded. Wooden cover present in the early photographs: octagonal, flat and plain; of modern appearance.
