Described and illustrated in the Inventaire général [classé M.H. 4 mars 1975] (1984) by Alain Hauss [http://notices-patrimoine.region-alsace.eu/noticespdf/im68000684.pdf] [accessed 6 March 2016]: baptismal font of pink sandstone originally from the nearby convent of Schoenensteinbach: "Les fonts proviennent vraisemblablement du couvent de Schoenensteinbach et dateraient du XIIe siècle. En 1795, Schoenensteinbach fut acquis en grande partie par le maire Hanauer de Wittenheim qui fit démolir le couvent. Il est probable qu'à cette époque les fonts arrivèrent à Wittenheim. Pendant un certain temps elle resta sur le cimetière adjacent de l'ancienne église puis trouva sa place dans l'ancienne église. Elle se trouve actuellement dans la nouvelle église Sainte-Marie construite à l'emplacement de l'ancienne. La cuve souffrit des bombardements de 1945." Hauss (ibid.) mentions the fonts from Eschau, Bischoffsheim, Bettbur and Ittenheim, all of them now at the Musée de l'Oeuvre Notre-Dame à Strasbourg, as being of the same type.
