Church Notes: first wooden church building from the time of Philip V of Spain (r. 1700-1724), so probably early 18thC; brick building of 1740; collapsed 1788; new church 1804; became cathedral 1897

The present baptismal font in the cathedral is modern; it consists of a round shallow basin decorated with a lip moulding, and conceve ribbing on the underbowl; square pedestal base with rolls at top and bottom; lower base has inscription "CURA RECTOR J.B. LAMAS" identyfying the donor (?) as José Benito Lamas Regueira (1787-1857) a Franciscan who served as parish priest here before the church became a cathedral. [NB: we have no information on the font of the original church here].
