Noted and illustrated in Die Bau- und Kunsdenk[...] Oldenburg (1896-1909). Listed in Ligtenberg (1915). Classed in Drake (2002) as a font of Bentheim School, 3. Berge. a. Type I, which includes fonts at Ankum I, Arle, Berge, Borghorst, Emlichheim, Emstek, Gescher, Haselünne, Hattem, Jellum, Lastrup, Metelen, Münster Museum, Norg I, Ochtelbur, Ramsdorf, Recke, Toornwerd, Vries and Zweelo). The Katholische Kirchengemeinde St. Petrus Lastrup [www.lastrup.de/unsere-gemeinde/kirchengemeinden.php] [accessed 20 February 2016] informs that the ca. 1200 font was one of the few objects moved from the medieval church into the new one. The baptismal font consists of a roughly cylindrical basin decorated with (top down) a double rope moulding or braid, a vine with palmettes and fruit bunches, another double rope moulding or braid, and a band of fan-frieze; raised on a round-to-square pedestal base with a roll moulding atop, and four seated human figures with raised arms holding the basin set at 90-degree angles of the broad central shaft.
