Noted in Ludorf (1914) and Ligtenberg (1915). Drake (2002) mentions that the stone of the Metelen font, which he classes as 'Bergen. a. Type I', "is not yet established". The font consists of a roughly cylindrical basin decorated with (top down) a double rope moulding or braid, a vibe, a second moulding similar to the first, and a band of fan-frieze pattern below; round-to-square base with roll moulding atop and four couchant-regardant lions at 90-degree angles of the broad central shaft. The font had much damage around the upper rim, and was later repaired without an attempt at reconstructing the detail of the missing chunks. A 2005 photograph of this font in the Katholische Kirche Metelen SS. Cornelius und Cyprianus [www.katholische-kirche-metelen.de/Geschichte/Kirchenausstattung/kirchenausstattung.html] [accessed 11 February 2016] shows the font totally cleaned and restored; the flooring has been raised around it but the font itselfs appears to rest on the original floor.
