Noted in Die Marienkirche in Waabs [www.schlei-ostsee-urlaub.de/data/schlei-ostsee-urlaub_1519.html] [accessed 5 February 2016] as an early-Gothic baptismal font from Gotland limestone in this church. Baptismal font of the typical later-Gotland export type, consisting of a roughly hemispherical basin decorated with a thin band of nail-head pattern below the upper rim, a ribbed pattern all around the basin and underbowl; the ribs have pointed arch-heads with trefoiled intrados, with triquetras in the spandrels; raised on a truncated-cone pedestal base with a roll moulding atop. The medieval font was found in Ludwigsburg and re-installed in the church in 1968, replacing the wooden font introduced in 1674; it was located at the east end of the nave close to the chancel; it was moved to the tower space during the ca. 2020 restoration of the church [cf. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T06mNS423FI (Innensanierung Marienkirche Waabs)]. [cf. BSI entry for Waabs No. 2 for the later wooden font now in use in this church]
