A font here is described and illustrated in Eyck (1846) as having been disused for years in the presbitery [vicarage] garden of the Nieuw-Loosdrecht; Eyck (ibid.) suggests a comparison with the font at Bommel, remarking that whereas the Bommel font has eight historical scenes, the Loosdrecht has eight symbols on it, which he identifies as follows: a) a pelican; b) an owl?; c) a squirrel; d) a bird on a branch; e) an angel [NB: Eyck (ibid.) gives it as a symbol for the Evangelist Luke!]; f) a fox?; g) a vine; h) 4-leaf flower. Eyck (ibid.) suggests a 13th-century date for the font. The font consists of an octagonal basin with badly damaged uppr rim; the sides are framed by thin piping/moulding, each panel with a motif or symbol in it, as identified in Eyck above; the basin underbowl has some graded moulding; the stem is short and may have been re-cut to its present shape; the base is octagonal-to-square, with a moulding atop and breach stops below; all very eroded. There is no cover present.
