Moulin (1842) refers to a "tijdschrift de Gids van ’t jaar 1839" by C. Leemans [cf. infra], about the unearthing of an ancient font at Zalt-Bommel. Baptismal font noted and illustrated in Eyck (1846), who refers to a description of this font in C. Leemans in 1839 in which the font is dated to the building of the church in the early-14th century, and contemporary to the fonts at "Loosdrechtsche en Hoogwoudsche" [cf. Index entries for Loosdrecht and Hoogwoud]. Basin of a baptismal font made of sandstone, now missing the original base, noted in Rijksmonumenten.nl [http://rijksmonumenten.nl/monument/40181/grote-of-sint-maartenskerk/zaltbommel/] [accessed 23 December 2015]: "Laatgotische, zandstenen doopvont, gedateerd 1554, met acht reliefs, voorstellende taferelen uit het Oude en Nieuwe Testament." Much damamged basin; octagonal with a double moulding around the opper side, a row of foliage and flowesr below; there are eight (?) very deeply carved rounded panels on the sides and underbowl, including Biblical scenes; one of the scenes on the 'bulbs' of the basin appears to be Noah's ark; the next one to the right could be Abraham's sacrifice of Isaac; etc.; the original base is lost and the basin is raised on a plain octagonal bedestal base. No Font cover present. [TO BE INCLUDED: Schönlank-van der Wal, M., "Middeleeuwse stenen doopvonten in Gelderland".
