Font Notes:
Noted in Drake (2002) as a baptismal font of the "Bentheim School, Group A2, modified cylinder", a group in which this author includes the fonts at Bersenbrück, Büttel, Emsbüren, Enschede, Epe, Ermelo, Gimpte, Herzlake, Holtland, Ochtrup, Ostönnen, Otterloo, Ueffeln. Noted in the Wikipedia entry for this church [https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marienkirche_(Holtland)] [accessed 3 October 2025] as a Romanesque baptismal font made of Bentheim sandstone in the 13th century; it consists of a cylindrical basin decorated with a shallow blind arcade of blind horshoe arch-heads on a base that has and a couchant-regardant lion at each angle: "Der Taufstein entstammt vorreformatorischer Zeit. The present font cover is probably a modern combination of metal basin insert and cover.
