The entry for Sint-Pieterskerk in Kerken Kijken Utrecht [https://www.kerkenkijken.nl/kerken/pieterskerk/geschiedenis-en-gebouw] [accessed 12 February 2022] refers also to the font now in the church-museum because this font had stood in Sint-Pieterskerk until the 19th century, when it came to the possession of a collector and was subsequently acquiredin a 1876 auction by the Museum Catharijneconvent, where it is now on display [a description of the heads follows] [="Veel meer is bekend over de doopvont die momenteel in Museum Catharijneconvent staat (achthoekig, met eveneens vier kopjes). Bijzonder is dat deze oorspronkelijk in de Pieterskerk heeft gestaan. In de 19e eeuw is de vont in handen gekomen van een verzamelaar en vervolgens in 1876 op een veiling aangekocht door het Aartsbisschoppelijk Museum (Catharijneconvent). Het Catharijneconvent gaf de vont in bruikleen aan de Catharinakerk, maar momenteel is deze weer in het Catharijneconvent te bezichtigen. Over de ‘maskerkoppen’ op deze doopvont wordt het volgende geschreven in de catalogus van het Catharijneconvent: de eerste heeft een nauwsluitende hoofdbedekking en laat grijnzend zijn gebit zien; de tweede, met hanglip, draagt een zich naar boven versmallende hoed; de derde met smalle mond, heeft een muts, waarvan het einde naar voren terugslaat; de vierde, eveneens ernstig kijkend, heeft een aan de voorzijde afgeplatte ronde hoofdbedekking."] Medieval baptismal font listed in Drake (2002) as a baptismal font of the "Bentheim School, Berge b. Type II", a group of fonts that includes those at Alfhausen, Badbergen, Bippen, Borken, Heek, Lathen, Nordherringen, Salzbergen, Schapen, Schepsdorf, Südkirchen, Utrecht (Katharinenkonvent), Weerselo, Wettringen and Wissel. The font, as displayed in the Museum Catharijneconvent of Utrecht in 1996, consists of a roughly cylindrical basin decorated with two bands of ornamentation topped by braid or double-rope mouldings, as expected in the Berge II type described in Drake [cf. supra]; the upper register has a vine with palmette-like leaves all around; the lower register appears to have a combination of arches, some with floral (?) motifs in them, as well as some human heads; the basin is mounted on a round pedestal base that would not be the original, unless the angle lions or figures have been chiselled off. No font cover present. [NB: this font appears to be the one that was in the Utrech Domkerk, aka St Martin's, until it was replaced by the modern font of 1978, or it was in Sint-Pieterskerk pre-19th century? -- see BSI entries for Utrecht No. 3 and No. 4]]
