Medieval baptismal font here (?) listed in Drake (2002) as a baptismal font of the "Bentheim School, Berge b. Type II", a group of fonts that includes those at Alfhausen, Badbergen, Bippen, Borken, Heek, Lathen, Nordherringen, Salzbergen, Schapen, Schepsdorf, Südkirchen, Utrecht (Katharinenkonvent), Weerselo, Wettringen and Wissel. The entry for Schepsdorf in in http://www.emslanders.com/map_ksp_schepsdorf.htm [accessed 18 November 2018] notes: "Schepsdorf was referred to as Sceepstorpe in an 1161 document and the parish of Schepesthorpe, a daughter-church of Emsbueren, was mentioned in 1291. The oldest part of the present-day church is thought to date from the 12th century with additions made in 1470/80, 1874 and 1964/65. Parish records date from 1668. Of the villages which belonged to Schepsdorf parish in the 19th century, Lohne was separated in 1916 and Darme in 1962. Most information taken from Handbuch des Bistums Osnabrueck, compiled by Hermann Stieglitz and published by Bischoefliches Generalikariat Osnabrueck. [NB: it is not clear whether or not this is the locality for the 'Schepsdorf' noted in Drake above -- unfortunately the only confirmation about a font here names a vessel of 1874].
