Noted and illustrated in Die Bau- und Kuns... (1896-1909). Noted in Ligtenberg (1915). Baptismal font of classed in Drake (2002) as "Bentheim School; Type Sögel I, Sögel", which includes fonts at Damme, Greetsiel, Grimersum, Kantens, Rijsen, Sleen, Sögel, Thuine and Uphusen. The font consists of a roughly cylindrical basin decorated with a double-rope moulding or braid at the upper rim, a vine, a second double-rope or braid, and a second vine; as usual in these Bentheim designs the upper vine is more geometric, the lower more natural, with palmettes; The proportions of the basin look odd; it is two short for its type; the explanation is likely that it has lost the original upper in the restoration; it is raised on a round-to-square pedestal base characteristic of the type, with a roll moulding atop and four couchant-regardant lions at 90-degree angles of the broad central shaft. No font cover present.
