Baptismal font that was recunstructed ca. 1967 from the broken fragments found [buried?] in and around the church; the font consists of an octagonal basin with four human heads protruding at 90-degree angles on alternated sides; raised on a octagonal pedestal stem with stops lower down that make it square. No cover present. Two communications from Pol Herman to BSI (e-mails of 9 and 28 January 2022) refer to the fragments that were used to re-construct this baptismal font, and whether they were all from the same original font or not. Here are some excerpts from Pol Herman's e-mails: In the first e-mail: Many years ago, the four heads of the Gothic Mosan baptismal font of Maasbree were found during excavations [...] They were use to remake a baptismal font. But recently, another head has been found in the garden of the presbytery of Maasbree by amateur historian Ton Boots. I doubt if this is from a baptismal font. In the later e-mail: If you look to the 4 heads that were originally discovered, I get the impression that the head on the right doesn’t really fit the 3 others. Its hat is higher. There is no bevel under the hat. The forehead is lower. The head seems smaller. Personally, I have the impression that the loose head fits the three heads on the left better. Please note that the restored font was destroyed a second time: at the end of WWII when the Germans blew up the tower on 19th of November 1944. The old font was broken into many pieces, and fragments were lost. It was re-assembled by heavy restoration. As a dating aid, hereby the Mosan heads at the entry door of the house Nieuwe Gracht n° 20 at Utrecht. The dating of the house is well know : 1520. One of the 2 heads is very similar to the heads of the font at Maasbree. Local historian Ton Boots dates the font at Maasbree 1540, I have no idea on what basis.
