Church Notes: original church believed to be 10thC; first documented 1108;
There is an object that may or may not have been part of a baptismal font in this ancient church; it is now much worn, with a very eroded shape, but, generally, a pedestal of square-ish shape, with a hollowed top that has a large central drain, and a vertical trough cut down the front; the general shape suggests a re-cycled earlier stone [altar? votive object?] that could have served as pedestal base to a font basin. [NB: this is very speculative, as the object may just be part of a totally unrelated drainage system]. The present font, located in a side chapel, is 19th-century ["prima cappella a destra, ove è ubicato il fonte battesimale - ottocentesco" source: web site of the Comune di Assemini [www.comune.assemini.ca.it/area-citta-e-territorio/la-storia/i-santi/san-pietro/la-chiesa.html] [accessed 20 November 2015]]
