The present font is 18th-century ["fonte battesimale settecentesco" source: www.geosearch.it/s_572/Assemini/chiese/Chiesa-Parrocchiale-di-San-Pietro.php [accessed 20 November 2015]. This modern font resembles an altar when the lid is closed; two other such are listed in this Index: an earlier one at Donzy, Nièvre (France) and one other, also 18th-century, in the cathedral church of Zamora (Spain). The Assemini San Pietro font, has an inner well divided into three compartments, two of the rectangular, the third smaller and round; the outer shape resembles a Baroque altar form, rectangular with curved decorated sides; this font has an inscription on the side with the Latin text of Christ's reply to Nicodemus (John 3,3): "Nisi quis renatus fuerit ex aqua et spiritu [...]" [NB: we have no information on the font of the original mid-11th century church, nor of the font of the 13th-14thC church here].
