There are four entries for [East and West] Molesey [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/XX0000/east-and-west-molesey/] [accessed 20 October 2015], one of which mentions a church in it. [NB: this church was, accoring to the VCH [cf. infra], the one at West Molesey]. Allen (1831) reports a baptismal font in the church at "East Moulsey", without dedication: "The font is an octagon, with a quatrefoil on each of those faces which are visible, supported by an hexagon pillar." The Victoria County History (Surrey, vol. 3, 1911) notes: "The two Moleseys, East and West, are two small parishes, which consisted in 1086 of three manors, all called Molesham. Parochially they first appear as two chapelries, which later became parishes, and now form one urban district under the Act of 1894. [...] East Molesey was formerly a chapelry to Kingston. Gilbert Norman, Sheriff of Surrey, is stated by Dugdale, on the authority of Leland, to have added to the endowment of Merton Priory, about the year 1130, the church of Kingston with the chapelry of East Molesey. [...] The church, which is in the deanery of Ewell, is not mentioned in the Taxatio of 1291. [...] The church of ST. MARY EAST MOLESEY consists of chancel, north vestry, nave, north and south aisles, and a porch at the west end of the north aisle with a tower above it. The church has been entirely rebuilt during modern times". The entry for this church in English Heritage [Listing NGR: TQ1463467904] (1953) notes: "Church 1864-7 by Talbot Bury [...] Fittings: C19, including octagonal stone and marble font on granite stem" [NB: nothing is mentioned in the EH entry about the old church or its font]. [NB: we have no information on the whereabouts of the octagonal basin on a hexagonal pedestal base described in Allen (1831) [cf. supra]].
