Church Notes: present church shows 13thC, but an earlier church of the 12thC is noted below -- Listed in [http://digitarq.advct.arquivos.pt/details?id=1065867] [accessed 4 Otober 2015]: "A primeira referência conhecida a Sabadim encontra-se na doação que D. Sancho I fez a F. Fernandes, em 1187, da metade do reguengo de "Sabadin". Na lista das igrejas de Entre Lima e Minho, elaborada por ocasião das Inquirições de D. Afonso III, em 1258, Santa Maria de Monte de Sabadim é citada como uma das igrejas pertencentes ao bispado de Tui."

SIPA [IPA.00003467] [www.monumentos.pt/Site/APP_PagesUser/SIPA.aspx?id=3467] [accessed 4 October 2015] reports a "Mosteiro beneditino, com igreja românica, remodelada e ampliada nos séculos 18 e 19. [...] No lado da Epístola, um altar lateral e um segundo altar condenando uma janela, porta de acesso ao exterior flanqueada por pequena pia, e janela." It does not mention the main font, so the 'pequena pia' noted in the SIPA entry must refer to a holy-water stoup inside. The font itself is the usual hemispherical basin of local granite, totally plain, raised on a short cylindrical base; it could be medieval. Wooden cover on it painted ugly brown; appears relatively modern. As you said, one of the SIPA images that shows the interior of the nave, looking west, shows the font at the NW corner, inside a railing, a traditional location for a medieval font.
