Font Notes:
There are three entries for this Welham [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SP7692/welham/] [accessed 27 August 2015], one of which mentions a priest, but not a church in it, though there probably was one there. The Victoria County History (Leicestershire, vol. 5, 1964) notes: "There was a priest in Welham in 1086. (fn. 90) Richard Basset included the church of Welham in the endowment of Launde Priory which he founded before 1125. [...] The small shallowbowled octagonal font and wooden cover are of the early 18th century." The entry for this church in English Heritage [Listing NGR: SP7654192444] (1966) notes: " Font may be C14, simple octagonal basin rising from octagonal shaft, with 8 sided tapering wood cover."
