There is an entry for Swepstone [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SK3610/swepstone/] [accessed 26 August 2015]; it mentions a priest, but not a church in it, though there probably was one here. Pevsner & Williamson (1998) report a circular font "probably Norman", in this church. The font consists of a round, almost cylindrical basin the only decoration on which is a thin chamfer around the upper rim; plain tapering circular pedestal base, and much-damaged round lower base with a single moulding.
