There is an entry for Kimcote [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SP5886/kimcote/] [accessed 17 August 2015], but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. English Heritage [Listing NGR: SP5858286536] (1955) notes: "Octagonal pedestal font with panels with quatrefoils in circles, dated 1654, but probably earlier." Leicestershire Churches [www.leicestershirechurches.co.uk/kimcote-church-all-saints/] [accessed 17 August 2015] notes: "The church underwent a major restoration in 1642, at around that time the font was desecrated and the cover removed, by 1654 the font was restored. The church originally had a steeple but this fell into the church in 1771 and the tower was rebuilt without one. There may have also been further damage to the font after this event." [NB: the practice of dating older fonts in England to the time when they were restored to their churches after the Commonwealth is well documented; this could be another such case].
