There is an entry for Hoby [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SK6617/hoby/] [accessed 12 August 2015], but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. The present font consists of an octagonal basin that is plain except for a roll moulding below the underbowl chamfer; raised on a square-to-octagonal-to-square pedestal base, and a plinth that was originally a 16th-century tombstone. The wooden cover is octagonal, flat and plain; appears modern.
