There is an entry for Dunton [Bassett] [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SP5490/dunton-bassett/] [accessed 11 August 2015], but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. The entry for this church in English Heritage [Listing NGR: SP5475990438] (1955) reports a "C12 font on modern base" in it. The font is illustrated in the Leicestershire Churches site [www.leicestershirechurches.co.uk/dunton-bassett-church-all-saints/] [accessed 11 August 2015]: the font consists of a round tapering basin with a round moulding at the upper rim, the sides divided into plain panels by piping and a thinner horizontal moulding marking the top of the underbowl; the latter is rounded and plain; the upper rim shows repairs of new stone inserted to replace a damage probably caused by the expansion of old metal staples in it; the base, a broad central shaft and four angle colonnettes, all moulded, is a modern replacement. The wooden cover is flat and round, with metal decoration and a ring handle, also modern.
