Font Notes:
Listed in Glesius (2013). Baptismal font here is noted in the Pfarrkirche St. Bartholomäus site [http://www.pfarrgemeinde-ayl.de/kirche_ayl.htm] [accessed1 August 2015]: "Der Taufstein (~ 1500) stammt vermutlich aus der Lambertuskirche." The font consists of square basin with an octagonal uppr rim that has four angle columns at 90-degree angles on the sides; the columns are decorated with torsade; the panels on the basin sides have four angels holding shields with emblems of the Instruments of the Passion: nails, hammer, pliers, crown of thorn, etc.; The square base is modern, with an inscription that dates it to 1999. Octagonal pyramidal font cover of brass, with orb-and-cross finial; modern. Earlier fonts must have existed in St. Lambert's church, which is documented since 1266, and is known to have had a baptismal font constructed for its consecration in 1368 [source: Rheinische Heimatpflege – 36.
