There are three entries for Allexton [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SK8100/allexton/] [accessed 23 July 2015], one of which mentions a priest, but not a church, in it, though there probably was one there. Noted and illustrated in Chris Jones' Leicestershire Churches [www.leicestershirechurches.co.uk/allexton-church-st-peter/] [accessed 23 July 2015]. Noted and illustrated in Leicestershire Villages [www.leicestershirevillages.com/allexton/gallery,491676.html] [accessed 23 July 2015]: "The Font in the South Aisle was restored from a C14th stone. The South Aisle had been demolished in the C16th but was rebuilt with dormer windows in the Millican Restoration of 1862. The Rector Dr Butler commented "this portion of the church is not required for seats, the population of the village being small ..... it will be used as a baptistery."" The font consists now of an octagonal basin with plain vertical sides, chamfered underbowl, raised on a moulded octagonal pedestal base, with moulded lower base. Wooden octagonal font cover, flat and plain; modern.
