Ortt van Schonauwen (1858) writes of a very damaged and eroded octagonal font from the Hervormde Kerk at Burg op Texel; he mentions the heads, oak leaves and rosettes as part of the ornamentation. Fragment of a baptismal font in this church, probably dated to the late-15th or 16th century restoration of the old Romanesque church of the 11thC here; the fragment was photographed immediately before the restoration and it consisted on the lower part of an octagonal basin that had large foliage motifs, stars and two human heads visible on it, one of which has clear negroid features; the font was also photographed immediately after the restoration by adding a large area above the break point. The font was then placed by the side of the pulpit, as it is customary in many of the Protestant churches of the area.
