There is an entry for Farnley [Tyas] [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SE1612/farnley-tyas/] [accessed 19 June 2015], but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. Hulbert's Annals of the church in Slaithwaite, from 1593 (1864) mentions other ancient chapels in the area but neither church nor chapel in Farnley Tyas. The present church was built in 1840.
