There is an entry for Garford [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/SU4296/garford/] [accessed 1 June 2015], but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. The Victoria County History (Berkshire, vol. 4, 1924) entry for Marcham notes: "The chapel of Garford was appurtenant to the parish church in 1291 [...] The chapel of ST. LUKE, Garford, consists of a chancel with north chapel, nave with north aisle, south porch and west bell-turret [...] the south doorway is largely of the 13th century [...] The church was rebuilt in 1880, but portions of the old structure have been incorporated." [NB: the chapel of St. Luke has now [2008] a Victorian font; we have no information whether an earlier font existed in it or not].
