Church Notes: abbey founded 660; Benedictine since 753; abbey church built late-8thC, consecrated 803; several fires damage the church in the 9th-11thC; re-built church consecrated 1073; re-built in Gothic style in 13thC -- listed in Mérimée [référence PA00085247]
The present baptismal at the former abbey church is listed in Palissy [référence IM67011543]: "Fonts à cuve octogonale, moulurée, sur pied légèrement évasé également octogonal. Couvercle en cuivre, moderne. Le pied, un peu court, est peut-être le résultat d'une restauration [...] Fragment ; traces de polychromie [...] 17e siècle (?)". [NB: at the time of the 1998 Inventaire général entry [cf. Palissy above] the ownership of the font was stated as "propriété d'une association diocésaine (?)", and had a dome-shaped metal cover on it.
