Scene Description: the new 19th-century church at Fortun, built in 1879 when the original wooden church of Fortun was removed and re-built in Fantoft, Bergen -- the modern font in this church was made by Torkjel Asheim, and bears an inscription around the basin top: "Lat småborni koma til meg - hindra dei ikkje for Guds rike høyrer slike til. Luk. 18,16."

Church Notes: original church here probably mid-12thC; scheduled to be demolished in 1882, the old wooden church was bought, removed and re-built in Fantoft, Bergen, in 1883; practically destroyed in an arson fire in 1992; re-built in a much grander style, still in Fantoft; some of the old wooden planks may have been saved and re-used in the new church
The present fonts in the re-built church in Fantoft, and in the modern church in Fortun are modern [NB: we have no information on the font of the original wooden church of the mid-12th century in Fortun]
