There is an entry for this Westcott [variant spelling] in the Domesday survey [http://opendomesday.org/place/TQ1448/westcott/] [accessed 26 April 2015], but it mentions neither cleric nor church in it. The present church is mid-19th century; the font, consisting of a square basin with chamfered angles has a number of motifs and symbols carved out of the sides; on a moulded octagonal pedestal base, and an octagonal-to-square lower base; square plinth. octagonal wooden font cover with turned handle/finial. All of it modern. We found no record of an earlier church here.
