INFORMATION

FontID: 19846MOO
Church/Chapel: Reformierte Kirche Moosseedorf
Church Location: 3302 Moosseedorf, Bern, Switcerland
Country Name: Switzerland
Location: Bern
Font Location in Church: Inside the church, in the chancel
Century and Period: 13th century / 16th century, Medieval
Church Notes: church documented by 1242, but said to have been built on the site of an earlier church; renovated 16thC
Baptismal font consisting of a round almost hemispherical basin raised on a broad cylindrical pedestal base, both parts totally plain; there are two lower parts, a splaying circular lower base and a very flat square plinth, both of which appear to be modern. The font itself has no visible characteristics to help with its dating [NB: closer examination of the interior well of the basin may provide helpful clues in the dating]; there appear to have been some repairs to the upper rim, which may suggest the presence of an old font cover at some point. There is no font cover present now. The font is now located inside the chancel, right at its centre.
